I have a customer that has Server R2 Essentials and tried upgrading Sage 50 Accounts and it comes up with an incompatible Operating System error I know there is a Sage work-around but the customer still asked for an edition upgrade. There isn’t a way to install ontop of itself to upgrade from r2 to Yes, the kits cost a small amount, but you get support with the kit and i’ve used each kit in a lab or real migration and it does indeed work – so well your users might not even know it’s happening.
I have used the migration kit and i recommend you do the option to pay for support. It did not go well for me because i did not pay for support and the tool assumes you know Power Shell which i do not so stumbled around and found some on line resources to complete the migration.
