The program provides a graphical interface for accessing all files throughout your system.

Restarting File Explorer may resolve the temporary glitch resulting in blank icons on your desktop. Before we move on to any major fixes, let us restart File Explorer. When you reset your computer, all the settings will be reset to the default factory version, including registries, group policies, and any customizations you’ve made so far. The default setting will likely solve your icon problem if no other fix worked, but you should be aware of the risks involved.

It is important to remember that if you choose the remove everything option, all data and files will be deleted, and your drives will be wiped. Don’t make your life more difficult by wiping your data. Hopefully, the fixes in the list will bring back all the icons that disappeared and normalize the blank ones. If nothing seems to work, you may have no choice but to manually change the icons one by one and create shortcut icons for those that have disappeared.

All of my shortcuts in the Windows 10 desktop have become white or blank. I have created a test user account as Sangetta Sarkar suggested, and the icons seem to be present for that account, but not for my user account on the same computer. This morning, out of the blue, no programs installed for week now and no changes to the computer of which I am aware, the Quick Launch icons themselves do not appear. The area of the toolbar, which shows Quick Launch is enabled you can see the double bars on either side , is there, but there are no icons inside of the Quick Launch area. What is interesting is that when I go the left column of the Start Menu, and under “Most Used” and right click on Google Chrome, it shows as pinned to the Taskbar.

Then I right click the Google Chrome entry in the “Most Used” column again and pin it to the Taskbar and it reappears. All is well, until I reboot, then it is back to the same old situation of missing Quick Launch icons.

I have done a lot of searching on Google, but haven’t found an explanation for this behaviour. I have turned on and off the Quick Launch toolbar, but that has made no difference. I have warm-booted and cold-booted without effect. Any ideas I love a good mystery. Windows 10 does have its quirks.
