A horrific assault by a customer has temporarily blinded a Perth Uber driver in one eye, and he is now too terrified to return to the wheel.
Dashcam video showed the frightening moment Uber driver Moiz was beaten and threatened by his client in Perth’s hillside suburbs at 11:10 p.m. on Sunday.
WA Police said that a rideshare driver in his twenties picked up a customer from a Clayton Street property in Koongamia.
Police claimed the passenger entered the vehicle in an aggressive way before beating the driver, causing face injuries.
The Uber driver reported to 7 NEWS the attack that left the victim fighting for his life.
“He said, ‘I’m going to kill you tonight, and you’re going to die tonight. And in those 10 seconds when he had his hands around my neck and I couldn’t breathe, he said, “Okay, I think it’s over.”
“At that point, he sticks his finger in my mouth, and I bite him. That’s why he takes his arm away.”
“When I got out of the car, he ran up behind me and said, “I’m going to kill you tonight.”
After a few minutes, the driver gets back in his car and drives away, leaving his attacker behind.
Moiz said it was only a matter of time before he was attacked at work, so he put a camera on his dashboard to protect himself.
He said that he won’t drive for Uber anymore.
“I got away lucky, because that was the worst thing that ever happened to me.”
Police in Midland are looking into the case and have asked anyone who may have seen something to come forward.
