Najam Sethi’s appointment has been approved by PM Shehbaz as the head of PCB

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved former journalist Najam Sethi as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and removed the incumbent Rameez Raja.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the Prime Minister’s Office will issue four notifications regarding the appointment.

He said that a notification will be issued to abrogate the 2019 constitution of the cricket board.

The second will then report the elimination of the two names nominated for the chairmanship under the 2019 constitution. The third notification will then announce the restoration of the 2014 Constitution.

A fourth notification will then report the establishment of a “setup” to run the current board.

News of Raja’s change as PCB chairman has been doing the rounds a few times in the past, however, he rubbished the claims and said he is “not going anywhere”.

Later it was also reported that the current government has decided to sack the current chairman of PCB.

However, Raja had called the PCB staff to inform them that they had received a “green signal” from the government to continue the work.

“I have been asked to continue as PCB chairman,” Raja told the PCB staff.

The former Pakistan captain was elected unopposed as the Chairman of the Cricket Board on 13 September 2021 during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

The top PCB post fell vacant after the resignation of Ehsan Mani after completing his three-year term.
